About This General Election

ELECTIONS COMMISSIONER REPORT FILED BEFORE THE A.S.I. BOARD OF DIRECTORS on Thursday, May 12, 2016.

Presented by Mihika Mody, Elections and Orientation Commissioner of the Elections Committee:

I would like to announce the results of the 2016 ASI General Elections.

Voting for Elections took place over three days: Monday, May 9 through Wednesday, May 11.

1,766 students voted electronically via the Golden Eagle Territory (GET) system and through the GET Mobile App.

The election was closed at 7:00pm on Wednesday night. General Election Ballots result reporting took place at 7:01pm.

All results are valid. No concerns regarding the voting process were shared with the Elections Committee.

Seven grievances were filed for the A.S.I. General Elections and submitted to the Judicial Review Committee.

A hearing was not granted to four of the seven grievances due to unsubstantial and incongruent evidence. Of the five, one was determined to be the same as another recently filed and heard grievance by the JRC, which extended the minor violation (see below).

Three hearings were granted:

Hearing One held Wednesday, May 11, 2016

  • A hearing was held but the JRC did determine the defendant (Students United Slate) was in violation of the A.S.I. General Election Policy (Policy 004), Article IV, Section 10, Part E.
  • One warning was issued to the slate requiring them to cease and desist from campaigning in campaign-free zones, and if T-shirts are passed out to students, the Students United slate shall inform the students to not cross campaign-free zones outlined in Policy 004, Section 10 and areas marked by blue tape.

Hearing Two held Thursday, May 12, 2016

  • A hearing was held but the JRC did determine the defendant (Students United Slate) was not in violation of the A.S.I. General Election Policy (Policy 004), Article IV, Section 10, Part E.
  • No warning was issued to the slate.

Hearing Three held Thursday, May 12, 2016

  • A hearing was held but the JRC could not determine if the defendant (Samuel Garza and Gregory Bates) was or was not in violation of the A.S.I. General Election Policy (Policy 004), Article IV, Section 10, Part E.
  • No warning was issued to the slate.

Based on the above, I am seeking a motion from the Board to approve the results.
