Cal State LA clubs/orgs, Greeks, and campus departments may choose a theme that incorporates Spirit Week, Homecoming, or what you think best represents your group affiliation.

Due to the limited number of electric carts available, participation will be granted on a "first come, first serve" basis. Upon registering, each group will be provided (1) $100 VISA Gift Card for decorating costs. The decorating will take place on campus this year under the awning of Library North on the Campus Walkway on Monday, February 1 from noon to 11 pm. The parade will take place on Tuesday, February 2 beginning at noon on the Main Campus Walkway.

All participants MUST send at least (1) REPRESENTATIVE to one of the Float Parade Meetings on Friday, January 29. The first meeting will begin at 10 am and the second at 3 pm in the A.S.I. Conference Rm, U-SU Rm 203. Each meeting will last 40 minutes.

All groups MUST BE PRESENT at the FLOAT DECORATING EVENT to finalize entries for the parade. Floats must be complete by 11 pm on Monday, February 1.

  • All participants are encouraged to create decorations and additions to cart in advance.
  • All items on the float must be wrapped, tied, or blue-taped onto the float. USING GLUE TO ATTACH ITEMS TO THE CART IS NOT ALLOWED.
  • BE ON TIME! Please be at LIBRARY NORTH no later than 11 am on the day of the Parade. If the registered driver is not with their float, the parade will proceed and the group will not be able to take part in the parade.
  • At no time is a driver allowed to go off the parade route. Maps of the route will be provided at the Float Parade Meetings, Decorating Event, and at the start of the Parade.
  • Cart keys will be checked out by and returned to an ASI representative before and after the parade, accordingly. Any group that does not return their keys will be fined $60.00 for key replacement costs.
  • Drivers are instructed to go at a steady pace and make sure they have ample distance from the group preceding them. Each cart will be preceded by a banner announcing the group 7-10 feet in front of the cart.
  • Heed the directions of any ASI staff member supporting the event.

Floats will be judged on:

  • Creativity/Originality
  • Presentation
  • Effort
  • Audience Appeal
  • Overall Appearance

FLOAT DECORATING CONTEST WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT 1:30 PM AFTER THE PEP RALLY DIRECTLY FOLLOWING THE PARADE AND JUDGE DELIBERATION.
