  • First Generation College Experience

What is deliberation?

Simply Put, It's a Way of Decision Making!
Deliberation is an approach to politics in which citizens, not just experts or politicians, are deeply involved in community problem solving and public decision making. Working with trained facilitators who utilize a variety of deliberative techniques, citizens come together to:

  • Learn about the issue
  • Talk with, not past, each other
  • Consider diverse points of view
  • Discover key tensions and values
  • Spark new ideas
  • Make decisions

Why are we hosting Open Deliberation: Advancing the student agenda at Cal State LA?

We know dialogue with and between students is important to solving these issues. Through this event, students will participate by learning, experience sharing, discussing and brainstorming solutions for two different topics. It is our goal to gather the ideas and data from these conversations to guide not just the student government agenda, but the agenda for Cal State LA students as a whole.

Why should students attend?

Ultimately, we hope that through the personal connections within these conversations, students will become inspired to take action and engage in their communities beyond 'Keyboard Activism'.

The formation of this event included the collaboration and team work of ASI representatives from all areas of our organization. The different phases have been:

  • Surveying and Data Analysis
  • Research
  • Task Force creation
  • Facilitation training
  • Event Day
  • Evaluation and Assessment

With your participation, we can further develop the student agenda on resolving issues that affect us most at Cal State LA. RSVP to reserve your seat at this event!
