The Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is the single recognized voice for over 28,000 students at California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA). A key component of the mission of ASI is to support legislation at both the State and Federal levels that provide service, programs, and protections that meet the educational, social, recreational, and cultural needs of the pluralistic community.
Together with other student governments throughout the CSU system, we are fighting to ensure that the California legislature and federal government uphold a promise of affordable, accessible, and quality post secondary education; while promoting social justice and the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of laws, regulations, and policies.
Note that many of the resolutions passed by the Cal State LA ASI are adopted from passed legislative documents from the California State Student Association (CSSA), the official legislative advocate for the students of the CSU System. Our student leaders participating in that body are encouraged to rearticulate CSSA positions and configure them to apply to our own ASI organization. Traditionally, ASI and CSSA successfully collaborate to advocate for students' interests to the State Legislature and University Administration.
Please familiarize yourself with our ASI passed resolutions. Also, consider becoming a student body representative which works in conjunction with university leaders, student advocates, higher education policy experts, public officials, alumni, and students from across California. Become civically engaged and empowered to be a champion for public higher education.
